At Packit, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your household data remains secure. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Packit mobile application and its Wear OS companion.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

  • Account Data: When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name via Google Sign-In or Firebase Authentication.
  • Household Data: We store the names of your households, custom list names (e.g., "Camping Trip"), and the items you add to those lists.
  • AI Configuration: If you choose to use the "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) feature, your Gemini API key is stored securely on your device using Android EncryptedSharedPreferences.

B. Automated Collection & Permissions

  • Voice Data (Microphone): When you interact with the KIT voice assistant, we process your audio into text. This audio is processed by Google Speech Services and is not stored permanently on our servers.
  • Location Data (Geofencing): Packit requests "Background Location" permission to alert you when you arrive at a store. We do not track your movement history or sell your location; we only monitor when you enter or exit specific "Store Zones" you have created.
  • Image Data (Camera): We use your camera to scan receipts and barcodes. These images are processed to extract prices and item names to manage your pantry and budget.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To Reduce Cognitive Load: We use your history to predict when you are low on staples and to update KIT’s conversational hints.
  • Financial Intelligence: We track price history from your scanned receipts to provide inflation trends and store-to-store price comparisons.
  • Cross-Device Sync: Your data is synced via Google Firebase to ensure your phone, smartwatch, and other household members stay updated in real-time.

3. Data Processing & AI

Packit uses Google Gemini AI to parse your requests. Depending on your settings, your text prompts may be processed:

  1. Locally: Using Gemini Nano (on-device) if supported.
  2. Via Personal Key: Using your own Google AI Studio key.
  3. Via Shared Backend: Using our secure Firebase Vertex AI integration.

We do not use your personal household lists to train global AI models.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers necessary for app functionality:

  • Google Firebase: For authentication, database storage, and cloud messaging.
  • Google ML Kit / Gemini: For OCR and intelligent command parsing.

5. Your Choices & Controls

  • Location Access: You can disable geofencing at any time via the Android System Settings.
  • Data Deletion: You may delete individual items, lists, or entire households at any time.
  • Account Termination: You can sign out or request full account deletion through the Profile tab in the app.
